Happy Die Hard Christmas!

A very happy Die Hard Christmas to you all.

Now I have a machine gun.

Not that you can see it, but I tried to use cotton to make the hat there cool and somewhat three dimensional.  You can sort of tell in person, but it doesn't really fit the Die Hard theme...

Winter is coming!

I haven't seen or read the game of thrones, but I believe winter is coming is someone's house words? Regardless, winter is indeed coming to Delaware. As I get colder outside, and attend holiday parties... Always nice to have some fun winter nails. Light blue on all, with hand drawn snowflake on thumb, white and silver crackle, some cool fluffy white and blue stuff on the middle, and white and silver dots on pinky. Fun but simple. Did the same on my right hand, though slightly less well.

Happy winter!!

COMIC!

Well, my husband is running Dialogue Free Comic Day, so I made a quick comic out of some old nail pictures to be included.  Here it is:
Very silly, and rough, but I had fun.  To see a bunch of other Dialogue Free Comics (that are much better!) go to http://dialoguefreecomicsday.wordpress.com/

Thanksgiving(ish) nails

Well, I guess they're not really that thanksgiving-y, but I guess I was going for autumnal, and I think they work... I used this method:
From a cool blog
Which is something I've heard about but never really tried.  It worked pretty well, I think I took off a little too much from some mails, and they are a little too bare or thin, but it's a fun effect.  It feels bad though, because it seems like it wastes a lot of polish!  I'll probably experiment with it more another time.

Fall polka dots

Just a simple polka dot pattern over a shiny brown- tried to do autumn colors. Nothing too exciting, I just needed something new.

starry shimmers

These super easy and fun nails are just a light pink base with gold sparkles on top. The star gems were applied by using clear nail polish as adhesive.

Something fun

I've been meaning to redo mine for a couple weeks and Sophie's inspired me. Just a simple design over a new tan I got. I tend to always want to do more and more when I do a design like this, but I think I managed to keep it fairly minimal. Fun! I've also been learning how to post pictures via email from my phone so exciting! :)

Back in polka dots

I've been away for far too long, but this freezing weather should act as a great reason to get back into nail art.

Sorry for slacking!

Melting French Tips

These were fun but the didn't last long.  I always have such a hard time finding white nail polish and this new stuff I was trying just basically wouldn't dry-which kind of defeats the purpose of nail polish in the first place ammaright...

This is Halloween!

Alright I know I'm still a little early, but it's Halloween season anyway.  Halloween nail art is maybe my favorite.  Which is why I did the 'ol different design on every nail this week.

The thumb is supposed to be a haunted house... it's not great, and the photo doesn't capture it perfectly, but I tried.  On the pinky I tried a fun sorta drape lines of gooey polish over dry pain after poking at it a while to make it gooey method to make it look like drops of blood or something.  Didn't work that well, but it's a tough technique, I have to play around with it more.

I've been wanting to try the whole putting pictures from the newspaper on your nails technique for a while... and when it was getting late and I was tired, I decided to give it a try on my right hand.  It called for rubbing alcohol, which I didn't have, but I kept googling till I found someone who said I could use white rum- I bought some ages ago and it's been sitting in the pantry over a year (I'm not actually much of a drinker...)   Here is a description of the technique
I was actually planning on doing it for all of the nails, but it didn't really work on a few- including the thumb (supposed to be a mummy of some sort) but I decided it was good enough and I was tired.  the Day of the dead mask, and jack-o-lantern print worked pretty well, and I did a quick witch and then a pretty sloppy crossbones on the pinky.  What can I say, out of 10 original nails, I only feel great about 7 or 8.  If you're upset, come by and I'll give you some candy.  Or maybe just some candy corn nails like I did last week.
Happy Halloween!

Sparkle and Shine

So its been a long time for me since my last post.  The summer working at a summer camp lead to me painting my nails very little because the little ones would just promptly mess 'em up, but now I'm getting back to the routine.  And with that I present these golden beauties.

Classic Halloween nails...

Well I've known this was coming for a while, such classic and easy Halloween nails... Had some trouble because I assumed the yellow could go over the orange no problem, so I had to go back and clean up the orange before adding yellow... But all in all it worked pretty well!

Cheesetober fest

Went to a "cheesetober fest" last weekend.  It was a little disappointing due to some crazy dietary restrictions I have to be on for health reasons... But still had fun nails and a fun day!

GhOoOoOoOsT!

Some friends of mine have Halloween movie nights every weekend in October leading up to Halloween.  This past weekend, as it was not quite October, we just had a Patrick Swayze night and watched Dirty Dancing (one friend hadn't seen it) and Ghost.  This was my nailful contribution.

Happy October, everyone!

I've been absent..

I have been gone too long - but I'm back. Just some very basic (and messy) freehand.

Nail bugs!

Painted yellow with plans of doing some kind of splatter nail art I hadn't done before.  After 2 or 3 attempts of different methods, I gave up.  Debated what to do, considered starting over completely, and then noticed a thin black nail polish bottle.  Turned out way better than the splatter nails ever could bee...

Decided to go ahead and do my big toe nails too to match.  My toe nails are crappy, so I'm afraid I can't do much besides the big toes.  Turned out pretty cute though!  :)

Random fun

Just felt like doing something fun this week.  I actually did the purple one day, then ran out of time, then the next day kept adding until I liked it.  On top is some cool purple glitter polish I got from a co-op.

Birthday Picnic

I went on a little picnic to a beach for my friend's birthday.  We didn't actually eat watermelon, but I did bring a picnic basket and we had picnic blankets, so the picnic motif seemed appropriate.  Didn't get a fabulous picture of my nails, so I'm posting 2 OK ones.

Watermelons and birthday balloons!

Folk Fest Nails

Well, I'm feeling a little sorry for myself today.  One of my favorite events of the year is the Philadelphia Folk Festival, where there's awesome music crafts, hippies and fun.  I've gone most years of my life, usually just for 1 day with my family (and sometimes other friends) but a couple times I have been a volunteer and camped and spent the whole weekend there- although so far I've only done that on my own.  While my husband has come for the day a couple times, this year we were going to go together and volunteer and camp.  I was really looking forward to it, we paid and everything, but I have been having stomach pain on and off for the past couple months, and lately it's been kinda bad.  Thursday we decided not to go.  My parents were planning on going Saturday (today), and finally talked me into going with them.  So last night I stayed up a little later than I would have otherwise doing some fun colorful nails.  Then this morning they got here and my stomach was hurting and I just didn't feel up to it.  They waited an hour or so, missing more music the later they stayed, and I finally convinced them to just go without me.  Janis Ian and Natalie McMasters are playing today, yesterday (who I'm probably most upset to have missed) Old Crow Medicine Show, the folks who are well known for playing Wagon Wheel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gX1EP6mG-E) I'm just feeling real down right now.  Anyway, here are my colorful fun (though not really that impressive) missing the folk fest nails.

Sorry for being so bloggy on this post, just feeling real bummed.

Honeymoon nails

My husband and I are on our honeymoon. We flew to California, and are taking a train to Portland, Chicago, NYC, and back home to Delaware.  I was excited about the train trip, so painted my nails train themed.

Happy honeymoon!

Headbutt an Italian day

Well my husband is a fan of the holiday headbutt an Italian day, celebrating Zinedine Zidane's great headbutting of Marco Materazzi during the 2006 World Cup (http://youtu.be/W-KCbGAZRPQ for a video) so we had a party, and of course I painted my nails appropriately. He helped a bit with the players...

Hope you enjoyed headbutt an Italian day!

Fourth of July

I'm not really a hugely patriotic person.  I mean I'm glad I live in the USA, but I'm not really a big flag waver or anything.  I am, however, a big 'doing nails for holiday/seasons' person though. And so...

Stars and stripes for a week or two!  Happy Fourth of July!

WEDDING nails!

Well, as may have been prophesied by the bachelorette party nails that I posted a couple weeks ago, I just got married.  I didn't have a chance to take a picture of how I did my nails for the wedding, but fortunately our amazing photographer (and one of my new aunts!) Lori Sulger took some awesome pictures featuring our hands with nails and rings:

So that's what they looked like! I used a light purple, a darker but more translucent purple, and then a couple different glitter polishes on top.

Also I'm now married, the wedding was real rad and so is my husband.  It's awesome!

Flower power!!

Easy breezy manicure today, these are Kiss Nail Dress stickers.  Each box comes with enough to create two full manicures: one is full-coverage and one is just tips.  Here's what that looks like!

Fresh Twist on French Tips

Pretty basic concept-wise, I used reinforcement stickers to create clean lines for my manicure and then used a fun mossy green color with a very light sky blue tip! Nice and springy :D

Colorful Medley

After feeling fairly disappointed with my last nails, I was pretty excited about these ones:

Painted a white coat, used a bunch of colors, just doing drops, dabs, whatever, and then when it was a little dry, used this old top coat that I don't really use anymore because it tends to smear the polish...and then put a good top coat on over it once it was dry.
  Voila!

A Gradient?

Well I've always seen people with their cool gradient style nails, that they apparently did with a make-up sponge.  And I've always wondered if I had a make-up sponge, could I do that too?

It turns out... Not really, no!  I guess there's more of a trick to it.  I put down a light pink (LA Colors Pink Bubbles) and let it dry, then sorta painted the make up sponge with a couple pinks and purples and tried to dab.  Just... didn't come out the way I liked it.  Accented one on the other hand with purple glittery polish, but generally didn't like the look.  Repainting today.

Sunrise to sunset

Warmer weather is coming and I'm ready to have my “toes in the water and ass oh the sand".
First attempt at a tropical sunset in that spirit!

Spring has Sprung!

So, I've been thinking about doing some flower nails for a while and went for it today.  Well mostly- also wanted to try out some cool sequin glitter polish I picked up the other day.  Maybe if I got one of those fancy dotters I would make the flowers better?  I think they turned out pretty good though.  Just wanted colorful flowery :)

Rando

Last exam yesterday, today I just had fun experimenting and using stuff I haven't used in a while.  Nothing too exciting.

Rainy days

Sorry for my disappearance as of late- last few weeks of semester, plus babysitting some adorable nephews.  Turns out that when you've got a 9 month sleeping on your chest while you try to write an essay, you also don't have that much time for nail painting.  Class presentations Monday and Tuesday, but the rain and gloom inspired this rainy water marble, with a sunshine thumb.  Blues, and Purples over a silver base, with an orange and yellow for the sun.

Bespeckled

New nails now that I'm back from Jazz Fest!  A pretty teal (CoverGirl Outlast-  Stay Brilliant) topped with some fun confetti (Maybelline Color Show - Street Art).  I am really pleased with the results!

NOLA or Bust

I leave for New Orleans in two days - headed to Jazz Fest - my nails had to be ready.
The other hand says Fest, but it didn't come out great, so just imagine it.
